How to deploy Foxit PDF Reader with Microsoft Intune

Step 1: Prepare the Foxit PDF Reader Installer

1. Download the Foxit PDF Reader installer:
   • Go to the official Foxit Software website to download the latest version of Foxit PDF Reader for Windows.
   • Ensure that you download the offline installer (MSI or EXE) for the version you want to deploy.
2. Optional: Custom configuration (for customization):
   • You can use Foxit’s Deployment Tool to configure installation options and create a custom setup if needed (e.g., to set up preferences, disable updates, etc.).

Step 2: Prepare Foxit PDF Reader for Intune Deployment

1. Extract the installer if necessary:
   • If you’ve downloaded an EXE file, it may be a self-extracting archive. Run it to extract the MSI file and any related files required for deployment.
2. Silent installation options:
   • For silent installation (without user interaction), use the following command line arguments:
     • EXE: FoxitReader_installer.exe /silent
     • MSI: msiexec /i FoxitReader.msi /quiet
   • Ensure that you have the command for silent installation ready for use in Intune.

Step 3: Upload the Foxit PDF Reader Installer to Intune

1. Sign in to Microsoft Intune:
   • Go to the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center.
2. Add the Foxit PDF Reader app:
   • Navigate to Apps > All apps > Add.
   • Choose Windows app (Win32).

3. • Download the official Microsoft Intune Win App Tool

   • After installation open the Intune Win App Tool. Important: You need to open the Tool with Administrator right. Otherwise there will be an error. 

   In the application specify the following things:

   • Please specify the source folder: C:\DeployFoxitReader
   • Please specify the setup file: FoxitPDFReader20241_enu_Setup_Prom.exe [Enter the executable file. This can be different]
   • Please specify the output folder: C:\Output
   • Do you want to specify catalog folder: N
   

   In your Output Folder, there should be a new Intunewin file from the Foxit Reader application. We need this file in Step 2

   
4. Upload the installer:
   • Click Select app package file, and upload the Foxit PDF Reader installer (MSI/EXE).
5. Configure app information:
   • Add the necessary details such as app name, description, publisher, and category.
   • Under Install commands, specify the silent installation command:
     • For EXE: FoxitReader_installer.exe /silent
     • For MSI: msiexec /i FoxitReader.msi /quiet

Step 4: Configure Deployment Settings

1. Set installation behavior:
   • Under Detection rules, you should configure a rule to detect whether Foxit PDF Reader is already installed. You can use a registry key or the file system path.
     • Example for registry detection:
       • Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader
       • Value: Version
2. Define requirements and dependencies (optional):
   • Configure system requirements such as the minimum Windows version or available disk space if needed.
3. Set assignments:
   • Under Assignments, assign the app to the appropriate user or device groups.
4. Configure update settings (optional):
   • Decide whether to allow Intune to handle updates or use Foxit’s built-in update system for automatic updates.

Step 5: Monitor Deployment

1. Monitor deployment status:
   • After assigning the app, you can monitor the deployment progress in Intune by going to Apps > Monitor > App Installations.
2. Verify installation:
   • You can check on the target devices to confirm the successful installation of Foxit PDF Reader by either looking at the devices directly or using the Endpoint Manager console.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully deploy Foxit PDF Reader to managed devices via Microsoft Intune.
